The Boundless Era writes about human capability, technology, artificial intelligence, work, creativity, knowledge, culture, and the people whose lives refuse to fit inside a single category.
The project begins with one proposition: you are not late — you are getting depth and range. For most of the last century, the reward structure ran the other way. Choosing a lane early and staying in it was the rational strategy, and people who moved between industries and interests were described as unfocused, inconsistent, or simply late.
That assumption is breaking, and not because of any single technology. Two decades of ordinary tools did most of the work first: every subject became watchable and searchable, software that needed a department became a subscription, work came loose from geography, and anyone could publish to anyone. Artificial intelligence is the newest layer, and the steepest — it compresses the distance between understanding a discipline and being able to produce work in it. Together they change the economics of range.
We are interested in what that does to people. What happens to a professional identity built on being the person who does one thing. What happens to careers that no longer summarise neatly. What happens to the value of curiosity when it stops being a hobby and starts being an input.
What this is not
Not an AI news site. Not a productivity blog. Not a list of prompts. Not motivational writing about unlimited potential.
The subject here is a structural change in how knowledge and work are organised, and it deserves to be written about the way any cultural transition deserves to be written about — carefully, with argument, and with a willingness to be wrong in public. The ambition is that an essay published here is still worth citing in ten years, when people are trying to describe what changed.
Writing for the Era
We publish essays from people thinking seriously about this shift — particularly from those living it rather than commenting on it. If you have an argument, we would like to read it.
Gatherings
The argument gets tested in rooms as well as in essays. We run occasional evenings — small, in person, and closer to a seminar than a conference.
The founders
Alice is a soprano, a former hedge fund manager, a producer and a lifelong student of history, culture and ideas. After reading History at Yale she spent a decade in finance, running two equity investment strategies with combined assets of more than £300 million — work shaped by a multidisciplinary understanding of China that drew on philosophy, culture and art as much as on economics and politics. She left finance to dedicate herself to music. A third-generation musician who began studying at the age of three with her grandfather, a conductor and composer in the Chinese army, she is a coloratura soprano and the founder of Operaland CIC, which creates accessible, narrative-led opera for audiences beyond the traditional opera house: interactive recitals, reimagined Baroque, and productions that put music beside unexpected collaborators. Laura is an entrepreneur, designer and perpetual world-builder whose career has moved across luxury, technology, hospitality and culture. She founded Lark & Berry, the fine jewellery brand that became the first physical luxury jewellery store dedicated exclusively to lab-grown diamonds and gemstones, and has since built businesses and experiments spanning food, AI and creative technology. Rather than specialising, she is interested in what happens when unrelated worlds collide — technology with creativity, luxury with science, business with storytelling.
